Amanda's Arm Update

to catch everyone up, i was in a bad car accident in june in durham. a girl turned left across my lane when she should have yielded to me. good news is the accident was her fault, so her insurance will have to pay for everything. bad news is i have a lot of damage to my right arm. my wrist was extremely dislocated and my radius was broken. the skin on the underside of my pointer finger was ripped off, as well. (sorry for the graphic nature of this entry.)

so, i was taken by ambulance to duke (dook) and spent most of that day in the emergency room. i had surgery a couple of days later. they took a skin graft from my leg to put on my finger, and put a plate and 11 screws in my arm to try to hold everything where it's supposed to be.

i've been in a hard plastic splint now for 4 weeks, and probably have a few more to go. i've started OT, which currently consists of using my left hand to try to bend my finger and wrist a few times a day. we've had a few complications- a fever and a little infection in my finger- but so far nothing a whole lot of antibiotics, time, and OT can't fix.

needless to say, i'm getting quite a lot of practice doing everything left-handed.

thanks to everyone who's been helping me and praying for me...especially my dear husband, who has assumed responsibilities such as straightening my hair, cutting up my food, and tying my shoelaces for me.
